I'd love to go to one of these convntions but as I live in Scotland it would be tricky, annual leave, costs etc have to be taken into consideration.

In saying that, if a date was announced that gave me time to book and save the money for it, i'd be there in a shot.

I'd love to go to such a thing, but... you know... look at my location...
I think any such convention needs to be held somewhere "in the middle" of the world - somewhere near the meridian

Would definitely go if there was one in England.

I'm from Europe, so it would be too costly for me.

But other than that... I don't know... Maybe if the dev's would've been a bit more involved with the community the past few months. I'm feeling a bit disconnected. I think I would've enjoyed it more during the first few years of Guild Wars, or during the upcoming first few months of GW2.

I would rather see some kind of online event (not in game) and not just purely Arena Net but include all of NCSoft so that we could get some real answers. And no pre-screening the questions and NCSoft agrees to answer ever question (No Comment not allowed).

I will also be expecting a certain place to freeze over before this happens.

I wish there would have been more people at the London Community days last year, it would have sent a strong message to NCsoft and Anet. Net polls and posts are nice, but NCsoft/Anet HAS to learn from REAL experiences, not just promises, hence why there aren't more of these events (maybe).

I was at the event and I LOVED it, despite the minimal attendance. If Anet were to choose this option, they'd have HUGE success, they're very good at these things. I may not be able to fly to the USA for such an event, but I'd definitely consider it if it was in Europe.

Inde, convince Anet to do this! Especially after their "we can talk now" period - would be much better for getting information.

I'd love to go, whether I can or not is a different story.

I'd go, if for the simple reason that I'd get to hang out with my few dev friends for realz.

Granted, I doubt any real information would come out regarding GW2, but I tend to agree with JR, just with different devs. ^_^

Damn seattle. Too bad. I'm about as far as you can get from Seattle while still being in the Continental US.

Oh, that would be awesome.

I would go. Whether or not I could would depend on the details - location, cost, timing, etc. - but if I could? I totally would. I love conventions. Aaaaaaand, I have lots of experience working for cons, too.

Plus I've always wanted to go to the west coast. Chicago would be awesomely convenient for me, but I wouldn't mind making the trip out to Seattle.

Also...I want to see GW cosplayers. What's a convention without cosplay? I love cosplay - I love making and wearing costumes. And GW has some gorgeous costume designs, that are even fairly simple and realistic, as to how they can be translated from game art to reality. I've made crazy Final Fantasy costumes work, so I could definitely do GW. And the details...so much work, but it'd be so cool...

...Hee.

But yes. I think it'd be a great idea.

Seattle is rough. It's not exactly centrally located, and there are a lot of east coast players. I would suggest a centrally located locale like St. Louis or Chicago, which are also cheaper cities, if ANet would still come. If it were in Seattle, I'd try my best to come... but that's crossing a continent.

Lets see double daycare, Car broke down six times this year forcing me to buy a newer one about a year too early. Sister in law is getting married and all of my family is in it at 150-200 or so an outfit. Not to mention gifts...Yeah I am strapped right now. Although I would have loved to go.

And the car did not qualify as a clunker

Would be interesting when they have a playable version of GW2 available and when they want to talk about GW2. At the moment nothing is going on and such an event prolly costs a lot of money and time to organise.

Mmm this is a really good idea. If I wasn't saving for a different convention I might consider it.

Shameless bump because I just saw this on Martin Kerstein's twitter:

Quote:
@jpob doing research on how to run a Fanfest, checking out how CCP are doing it
CCP is CCP Games who does Eve Online. They are currently holding their Fanfest in their hometown of Reykjavik, Iceland. And that's where Martin is!!

It's good that they are looking into it however there still are a lot of us who won't be able to make the trip even if it happens... now if they wanted to do a Guild Tours and hit several cities in the US and abroad, that might be able to get more overall attendance.

Well, I am quite impressed to read this and that Martin is doing this.

He is going to the right place - CCP knows very well how to treat their subs / players. I have often thought of the way CCP operates, they really care, especially in terms of supporting / communicating to their players base... and often found myself thinking: "If only GW...."
But you know, I often stopped myself by saying... "Well, we don't pay-to-play GW, so I guess it's fair", but, you know, it really isn't.

I was tempted to go to Fanfest, especially since they offered absolutely awesome travel packages, stays and tours of their HQ of what goes on in how the design process works!

Gawd Inde, nobody likes thread necros... <3

I no longer have disposable income for something like a trip to Washington, but if they were to do a multi-city thing like Winterclaw mentioned, I could probably find a way to get there. Closest legitimate place they might go for me would be Chicago.
